About Us

Opening my own retail business was never a dream of mine, it evolved.... In the beginning, My neighbor threw out an old rocking chair in his garbage. I snatched it out of there and I started painting it. To my surprise it turned out quite nice. I felt like I rescued something from certain death or at least being crushed and thrown into a landfill. Then I started painting more furniture and selling it via garage sales. Hmm, there is a market for this...

This venture has taught me a lot about business, about people and about myself. I learned I wanted more than sticky price tags, I wanted a whole lot more. It taught me I wanted nice price tags and I wanted nice quality items not garage sale standards.

I'm learning a lot about business by watching and listening to people. I realize that I'm a hard worker and respect people that have the same work ethics.

It's important to me to offer a nice product to my community and customers. I like the idea that you can just run "uptown/downtown" to get what you need instead of driving to a big box store in another area. Don't get me wrong, the box store's are nice and convenient but they do nothing for our local economy. Check out the "350 Project" for further explanation.

My Sweet Holly offers a flirty mix of furniture, home decor, jewelry, scarves. We are also a proud distributor of some "hip" t-shirts, hoodies, track jackets from Kid Rock's Made In Detroit apparel. I have something for just about anyone. I have a wide array of prices to offer anyone's budget.

People think that the store was named My Sweet Holly after the town although, that was part of the decision it was mainly named with my big sister Holli in mind. Holli passed away in 1994 at the young age of 45. She had terminal breast cancer for 2.5 yrs. before she succumbed to the disease it's still so hard to believe. Holli was like a mom to me even though she was only 7 yrs. older than me. She took care of me, she was my rock through life. My mom wasn't there for us she enjoyed the party-life a bit much so my dad raised us. Holli took over as the "mommy figure" and friend. Holli was the one I went to for comfort. Therefore, it was fitting to name my store after her. It's ironic one of the most and best compliments I get from customers about my store is how comfortable it makes them feel when they come in perhaps that's an indication that she's with me in spirit.
